Stop the Outrageous Lawsuits

Story link: Stop the Outrageous Lawsuits

It’s been said that anyone can sue anyone else for just about anything. That’s ridiculous, even if it is true. It’s part of the reason that you can’t sneeze without hitting a lawyer. The more people that come into the profession, the more outrageous some of the case filings seem to get.

If you spill your coffee, sue the company that had the audacity to sell you HOT coffee. Of course, if it hadn’t been hot then the suit would have been over the lousy coffee.

There has to be a better way to the legal thing. I know that for criminal cases, the defendant must be guaranteed legal representation. That’s fine. But I don’t think there should be (or even is) such protection for civil cases.

I say make the loser pay all the legal fees (presented to the judge up front) - and make the lawyer that represents a losing plaintiff culpable in some way. Maybe he doesn’t get paid and is responsible for the other guy’s fees as well - that would make the lawyers stand up and take notice. It might also make a lawyer think twice before taking a pointless and ridiculous lawsuit.

It won’t happen. The legal lobbies are far too strong to allow something so logical to pass into law. But it would still be great if it could.
